The Art of Hearing I; A Course In meaningful relationships in virtual spaces

Do you wish?

I wish they would have their camera on for this Zoom/ Teams call?

I wish they wouldn't look at/ pick up their phone while I'm talking.

I wish they wouldn't interrupt what I was saying.

It was easier when our meetings were face-to-face.

I wish it was easier to build relationships remotely.

I wish we had the time to actually share our thoughts out loud instead of all of us using "chat".

I wish I felt some kind of connection to everyone on this call.

Working remote has its positives, yet I wish I didn't feel so isolated at times.

I wish I could read body language and "the room" like I could when we used to meet in person.

The introvert in me likes working remotely - I get so much more done. In the past I could periodically come out of my office to spend time with people. I wish it wasn't so easy now to just send an email instead of leaving my desk to talk with someone.

The extrovert in me really struggles with this remote stuff. Sure, I have more time for family, friends, my hobbies but I miss all the relationships it felt like I had when we worked in person. I wish I felt less on an island now.

Working with a team across the country / world is great, but with limited travel, it's hard to build relationships.

If any of these mirrors your wishes, join me MARCH 20th, 2023 for a FREE WEBINAR to learn how to create and maintain meaningful relationships in virtual spaces.

Perhaps it was the gifts of my childhood, in which I learned at a young age to listen and observe instead of speak and be center stage. Maybe it was the blessings of my corporate career in a global organization that taught me the necessity of building effective relationships around the globe. Made even more necessary when my role was to be a bridge across multiple geographically located sites in listening for and then sharing each one’s best practices for a greater good of all. And possibly it is because of all that I learned through earning my MA in Organizational Leadership – a very holistic MA in which leadership is not only of the mind, nor only in an organization. Leadership is of the mind, the heart, and the soul. And that one of the top 10 characteristics of leadership is listening.

I anticipate most of all, it is because I have come to believe these things. Space does not separate us, no matter how much physical space is between. My best example is have you ever had a time you called someone, and their first response was it’s funny you called (or texted); I was just thinking of you!

Second, people just want to be seen and heard, and we have that ability to do so no matter the pathway – in person, remotely, on-line with only words (social, email, text, audio).

And third, if we value having meaningful, connected relationships in our lives, then we CAN have meaningful, connected relationships in our lives, no matter what life brings that tries to challenge our perception of how that can happen.

If you found yourself saying “yes” to any of these wishes, join me – join us - as I anticipate you are not alone in your wishes. I welcome the opportunity to share with you things that I have learned in how to maneuver effectively – and meaningfully – in an ever-growing virtually operating world.

I look forward to meeting you March 20th! If you have any questions, email me at Christine@hopewhispers.net
